Info
Doel is a mythical place which carries a tumultuous history and hosts uniquely preserved architecture, but most importantly Doel is not a ghost town. Doel is still inhabited. Although the population is very slim, they deserve your consideration. Past plans for the expansion of the Antwerp port and demolition of Doel have been abandoned and now Doel is ready to flourish again. We as an organisation are committed to creating awareness surrounding the unique history of Doel and aim to collectively revitalise the village and imagine a new future for it through actions and writings before, during and after the festival.
It is our privilege to be able to organise our festival in Doel, we ask that you respect the town and its inhabitants.
Care
We are collectively responsible for creating an inclusive environment and culture, so that we can all enjoy the moment. Everyone is welcome at Doel Festival. As a festival, we believe we can bring people with different perspectives and backgrounds together, resulting in a more stimulating event, where diverse voices are represented. Embrace it and celebrate it, but don’t forget to be mindful of others and respect their personal space.
This means there is no room for hate, harm, discrimination or humiliation. Additionally, we ask you to be gentle with what you consume, and notice how it shapes your energy and boundaries. Look out for your friends, the strangers beside you, and the space around you.
Doel Festival has a care team on site, a dedicated care space and an active phone number which you can reach during the festival if you feel the need to.
Consent culture
Consent is not just a word. It is your right. Nobody should be allowed to occupy a space, body or mind if it was not mutually agreed upon beforehand. If someone says no, it means no. What’s more, it goes beyond sex and applies to everyday interactions. It should be voluntary, enthusiastic, verbal, non-coerced and continuous. There is absolutely no shame in asking, as everyone moves through closeness differently.
Asking for consent is a simple way to meet each other with care.
Dance Floor Etiquette
The dance floor is a special area made to synchronise energies, to drift into the moment together, as a group. Therefore, if you feel the need to have a conversation, step aside, find a place that’s more quiet. A dance floor is for dancing.
And while some of those magical dance floor moments are ripe for capture, we do ask you to keep phone usage to a minimum, and live those moments in the present. We got the documentation of the festival covered for you.
Documentation
We invite specific artist photographers and videographers who each come to Doel to capture the festival in their unique vision, with their own eye. To be able to share with the world the magic that happens here and the people who are a part of it.
Yet, if you feel uncomfortable with a camera, please gesture the artist in that moment. Afterwards, if you see your likeness shared, but prefer not too, feel free to contact us directly.
Green Policy
We work tirelessly to ensure our festival can take place in our beautiful location. The only way we can keep it that way is with your cooperation. Please consider the environment when enjoying the festival.
Symbiosis
Doel Festival has a symbiotic relationship with the village. We work together with local entrepreneurs and support the current inhabitants and redevelopment of Doel by donating a percentage of each purchased ticket into a support fund, specifically set up for that purpose. This means that you buying a ticket, has a direct impact on the village’s future.
